He said the paperless system forms part of a four-year transformation programme designed to improve service delivery as well as transform operations at the Police Service.
It is a high performing framework, that will allow the Service to respond to change and manage risk while continually seeking ways to improve.
“We are working to be a digital police organization using the best technology on the market to deliver services via mobile phones through the police mobile application and a brand new website. We will be automating all our processes and systems where it is required from backing services such as communication between headquarters and the regions.
“Every police station should shift from paper to computer-based systems, making our organization as paperless as possible and also supporting our frontline operations with the latest technologies,” he added.
IGP Asante Apeatu who was speaking at the ongoing Agile in Africa Conference in Accra said a clear plan has been put in place to transform the Service into a world class Police Service capable of delivering planned, democratic, protected and peaceful service up to the standards of international best practice.
To achieve this vision, he disclosed that the Ghana Police Service’ transformation programme to manage and deliver the 13 strategic objectives clearly stated in the plan has been set up.
Spearheaded by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the plan will not neglect officers, but continue to make them priorities.
“New welfare packages and other incentives will be adopted to eliminate corruption and improve morale. Each officer must live by the vision and show it in the professional discharge of their duties.
“I want every officer to be proud to be a police officer in Ghana. To be able to show both the Ghanaian public and the international community that we have decided to set a new course and to be one of the best examples of policing globally,” Mr Asante Apeatu said.
He urged every officer to understand what the vision means and know how to translate it into everyday policing to serve the public with honour and integrity.
Other areas which will be revamped as a result of the new transformational agenda are a revamped Criminal Investigations Department, strengthened police standards, enhanced community policing with ICT as the main driver, the IGP said.
“CCTVs at traffic lights, speed cameras, vehicle detecting equipment, new GPS system to track all vehicles, police movement where we have property or assets that require monitoring.
“Many of our people will be going for training and upscaling so that we can be more customer-centric, innovative and efficient.”
Mr Asante Apeatu said the plan may seem impossible to achieve under the current environment and many people will question its abilities.
However, “I firmly believe that we have the right leadership team in place in the police service and across the country at this moment in time to make this vision a reality. I believe that whatever we commit our minds to, we can achieve as long as we start to see ourselves differently.”
“It is time for police officers to rise above all challenges around us and see ourselves as agents of change. We can make Ghana proud and we definitely will,” he added.
He said the Ghana Police Service intends to be the first police organization in Africa to fully become an agile organization following the example and practices of leading organization such as the FBI, CIA, British Police, British Government and many other international companies such as KLM, Capital One Bank, Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, Microsoft, IMB, Yahoo, Phillips, BBC, Fox Television, Visa and many more.
