Former World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion, Ike ‘Bazooka’ Quartey, is set to revive his Jumos Promotions to promote America-born Ghanaian boxer, Eslih Owusu.

Quartey described the young fighter as a real talent who can take on the world with the right nurturing, adding that it was time to consider using his defunct promotional outfit to help Owusu.

The 20-year-old Owusu made his debut in Ghana last Thursday at the Seconds Out Gym with an explosive third round knockout victory over veteran Benjamin Ankrah in a super welterweight contest.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports after the fight, Quartey, who was at Owusu’s corner during the fight with Ankrah, pledged to support him to achieve a world title status in the future.

The former WBA welterweight champion champion hailed his long-time trainer, Daniel Oko Odamtten, for discovering and nurturing a talented fighter in Owusu, whom he believed, would bring glory to Ghana.

“He is very good and I think he has a bright future,” said Quartey. “I was really impressed with his jabs and that reminded me of my heyday as a professional fighter.

“The focus is to build his career from Ghana and I’m ready to get my promotional license to revive Jumos Promotions to get him fights here,” he revealed.

The decision by Quartey to revive his promotional outfit will come as a big relief to many up and coming fighters, especially where he had said in the past that he stopped promoting boxing due to lack of talents in Ghana.

It is, however, unclear as to when Jumos Promotions would begin its operations in the country.
